We can slice and dice the time any way we’d like, but in the end it took 213,753,600 seconds for Combat Flags to come into existence. It took 353 weeks and 3 days for a single idea, a chronic thought, to become a tangible and meaningful project.
But, before we get to Combat Flags, let me introduce myself. My name is Dan and I served 6 years in the United States Army. I joined up a few months after my seventeenth birthday, just 2 years after Sept. 11, with the sole intention of serving my country. I didn’t join for college money or to find myself, I joined because it was the right thing to do.
I qualified and signed up for 37F – Psychological Operations. Why? Because it was the only job available at the time that guaranteed me an Airborne slot. After basic, AIT, jump school and language school, I joined my company and deployed twice in support of OEF-P. My 6 years in the Army were some of the best of my life. I met amazing people, grew (personally and professionally), learned lifelong lessons and started on the journey that led me to have the life I have today.
When I decided to leave the military, I left the military all the way. I packed it up — literally and figuratively — and put it away. I started school, graduated school, started my career and lived my life. But… I missed the military and I missed the connection to people who were like me. For the first time in my adult life I was accountable for nobody but myself.
So, I began the lengthy journey of finding my niche. I knew I wanted to reintegrate with the military and veteran community, but I didn’t want to volunteer randomly and donate money periodically. I wanted something with more meaning… something I could build a community around.
Enter Combat Flags. The idea for Combat Flags came during a mundane conference call. I happened to look up toward the corner of my desk, like I’d done a million times before, and spotted the tiny American Flag I had hanging. The idea struck me instantly. The Original Combat Flag was born. It took about 3 months of learning, testing and perfecting before I “officially” launched Combat Flags, but it happened. And I never looked back.
The sole purpose of Combat Flags is to connect veterans and give back in a meaningful way. At the time I launched the company I committed to supporting a veteran 501(c)(3) dedicated to helping our brothers and sisters who need it most. After much research I decided on Stop Soldier Suicide.
Lifetime donations recently surpassed $100,000, benefiting 77 veterans with much-needed support! I’m continually blown away by the meaning so many of you find in Combat Flags and my mission.
A simple “thank you” isn’t enough. But I am thankful for those of you who support Combat Flags and support my personal mission to leave the world a better place than we found it. Without you none of this would be possible.
This blog is twofold. I will use it to answer questions I’ve received since starting Combat Flags and to shed light on topics of interest. But more importantly I will feature stories from active duty, reserve and veterans to tell future generations of our service and what it means. If you’ve served and would like to contribute please checkout this simple guide and Q&A. If you have an idea for a future post please let me know in the comments!
Made in America Matters.
Our products are proudly handmade by combat veterans.
We are dedicated to remembering, employing, and empowering our heroes… the men, women, and their families that have dedicated themselves to serving others. We aren’t just military veterans. We are Americans who are deeply grateful to the public servants, law enforcement, first responders, teachers, and many more. We not only employ combat veterans but were founded by them.
We believe that combat veterans deserve an opportunity, Made in America matters, and we should never stop giving back.
Flags Of Valor is all about SERVICE…Past, Present and Future.
We were founded on the simple truths that veterans deserve opportunity, made in America matters, and we should never stop giving back. Since our earliest days we’ve been dedicated to Remembering, Employing and Empowering our Heroes. We are far more than a veteran-run business…we are a business that is simply dedicated to serve.
Our team is exceptional and constantly growing. The majority of our craftsman are service-disabled, some with significant combat-related injuries. We’ve created an environment where teamwork is foundational and camaraderie is supreme. We’ve raised over $1M for veteran and first responder charities and work tirelessly to promote veteran issues and stories of courage. We are grateful for your continued trust and support!

Special Operations to Entrepreneurship
Since its start in 2015, Flags of Valor grew from a two person garage operation to a nationally heralded veteran manufacturing company. Founded by two veteran special operations pilots, FOV specializes in hand built wooden products that showcase American values. At its creation, they dedicated Flags of Valor to being American made, empowering veteran hands, and robustly giving back to charity. In just over four years they’ve proven this commitment by creating more than 65 veteran jobs, raising $1,050,000 for veteran and first responder charities, and delivering over 100,000 hours of Veteran Powered American manufacturing Labor.
The founders share a fundamental belief that our nation’s war veterans are one of its greatest resources. Every veteran entered military service lacking the technical skills of their military specialty, however they learned quickly and adapted to diverse environments. They’ve witnessed these strengths transferred to industry. A strong empathy for the veteran journey led them to purposely pursue some of the most troubled veterans who are dealing with Post Traumatic Stress or physical disabilities from their military service. The environment at Flags Of Valor serves as a sanctuary for them…a place where they can convert raw materials into beautiful works of art. Flags of Valor built a culture where camaraderie, shared mission, and love of country resonates deeply with every teammate.
WELCOME TO FALLEN YET NOT FORGOTTEN
“Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again.” –- Ronald Reagan
Our freedom we have today is due to the millions of brave Veterans who have dropped everything to go fight in defense of our great country. These Veterans have left their wives, husbands, children, family, and friends to deploy all across the world to protect the United States and protect our freedoms and liberties that we hold so dear. We believe that Veterans deserve the utmost respect & honor, which is why our mission at Fallen Yet Not Forgotten is to ensure that those brave Veterans are never forgotten.
At Fallen Yet Not Forgotten, we personally design & ship our own jewelry, apparel, & accessories and donate a portion of all proceeds to charities that benefit Veterans & First Responders. We believe there is no better way to remember the sacrifices that our Veterans and fallen soldiers have made than by wearing our support proudly on our chests…which is why we personally design collections of lapel pins aimed at showing support for our Veterans and fallen soldiers.
Those who have fought for our country know that freedom isn’t free…and a simple “Thank you” goes a long way in showing support for those who have served. Our unique items are the perfect gift for you or a loved one and the perfect “Thank you” for those who have served the United States in defense of our freedom. Every day you can wear your support for our armed forces, your brothers-in-arms, and the soldiers who gave their lives to preserve our liberty.
Because what could be more important than our liberty.
To serve and honor Veterans and their families by empowering them to build meaningful lives through connections to fulfilling careers, benefits and services; and to proactively strengthen Veteran communities through leadership and collaboration.

“It was supposed to be a one-time-thing”
On May 19, 2016, one of Korey’s closest friends from the Marines, took his own life.
In mourning, Korey created a memorial plaque in honor of his fallen brother. He thought having a plaque help the pain, but it was just too difficult. He decided to gift the plaque to the mother of the fallen Marine.
Shortly after, he started getting requests for plaques to be made and gifted to other families across the nation and that’s when he decided to invest in equipment like laser engravers and table saws, just to keep giving back.
Memorializing these fallen heroes became a full time job and though he was paying out of pocket and not accepting donations, Korey was ecstatic knowing that when people saw the plaques it was helping that Hero live on.
So. Til Valhalla Project became official in 2017.
“A HERO NEVER DIES”
Korey has always said “A Hero NEVER DIES until their name is spoken for the last time”.
We wanted to show these families that someone out there, is always thinking of their loved one, and cares about preserving their legacy too. This is why Til Valhalla Project doesn’t discriminate our fallen Heroes by cause of death or when they passed, we want to honor ALL fallen Heroes equally, because they all chose to selflessly serve our nation.
“When a family loses a Hero over 10 years ago, they lose much of the support they had when the tragedy first occurred. We step in years later, to let the family know their Hero will never be forgotten and we are thinking of them. It truly reignites the flame so to speak, and it’s amazing to see their responses.” – Korey Shaffer
“IT’S ONLY THE BEGINNING”
Starting in 2019 Til Valhalla Project donates an additional 20% of net proceeds towards reducing veteran suicide.
“Veteran suicide is a plague and we are making our stand to stop it.”
Thanks to thousands of loyal customers, we are able to donate to charities and gift memorial plaques to hundreds of families who have lost their loved ones.
When you buy from Til Valhalla Project, you are not only preserving the legacies of our fallen, but also saving the lives of those who are currently struggling.
We will continue to deliver free memorial plaques and donate to charities with every purchase because this ensures our heroes are never forgotten and their legacies will live on forever.
